Within this degree, students can choose from one of four areas of specialization called concentrations. The
Human Nutrition and Dietetics concentration
prepares students to become nutrition and dietetics professionals. The
Food Science concentration prepares students for careers in the food industry. The Food Management concentration
includes a minor in business administration and prepares students for careers in foodservice management.
The Nutrition Science concentration
prepares students to apply for medical school and other professional
programs in the health field. Potential
transfer students can have their transcripts evaluated to see which course requirements have already been met. Students interested in applying for medical school or training in other post-baccalaureate health professions (i.e. dental school, optometry school) may also complete the Minor in Pre-Professional Studies in combination with a concentration in Food Science or Human Nutrition. Students may complete other minors in addition to their concentration in Food Science, Human Nutrition and Dietetics or Food Management (such as a minor in exercise science, psychology, or business administration) by completing at least 18 credits of eligible coursework in another area of study. For more information see the University of Maine catalog Undergraduate students in Food Science and Human Nutrition are encouraged to participate in two student-run clubs, the Nutrition Club and the Food Science Club. Outstanding students are eligible for the Kappa Omicron Nu and Phi Tau Sigma honor societies. About us | Faculty |
