Food Science and Human Nutrition Services

student in lab A variety of food and water tests are performed by the Chemical Food Safety Laboratory. On-campus researchers may contact Dr. Perkins at 581-1639 for information on using equipment in the facility
Small food processors in Maine and other northern New England states may have their food products and processes reviewed by Dr. Alfred Bushway as part of our product review service. General information for small food processors has been coordinated on the Food Science Information page. Dr. Bushway also performs standard microbiological analyses on food samples for a fee. 

Consumer Food Complaints  The faculty and staff in the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition do not analyze foods for bacterial or other types of contamination in response to consumer food complaints. If you are a consumer and have a food complaint, you should contact the Maine Department of Agriculture, Food and Rural Resources Division of Regulations at Tel: 207-287-3841.

Consumer Testing Center The Consumer Testing Center provides contract sensory evaluation services with an emphasis on discrimination and hedonic testing.
