Mary Ellen Camire is a contributor for nutrition terms in the new 6th edition of Stedman’s Medical Dictionary for the Health Professions and Nursing published by Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins.
 

Professor Mary Ellen Camire participated in the 2007-2008 Council of Engineering and Scientific Society Executives Leadership Forum November 28-30 in St. Petersburg, FL.

Professor Dorothy Klimis-Zacas was co-organizer and Chair of the Local Organizing Committee of the Joint International Conference entitled “Trace Elements in Diet, Nutrition and Health: Essentiality and Toxicity” with participant societies, the International Society of Trace Element Research in the Human (ISTERH), the Nordic Trace Element Society (NTES), and the Hellenic Trace Element Society, October 21-26, in Hersonissos, Crete, Greece 

Klimis-Zacas was also plenary session organizer, fund-raiser and chair of “Trace Elements:  Modulators of Arterial Function and Metabolism” in the above Joint Conference, October 21-26, Hersonissos, Crete, Greece

Professor klimis-Zacas was elected as treasurer on the new ISTERH (International Society of Trace Element Research in the Human) Board (2007-2010).

Professors klimis-Zacas and Mary Ellen Camire attended the 10th annual Conference of the Wild Blueberry Health Research group in Bar Harbor, Maine, August 15-19, 2007 where they presented their research findings.

Professor klimis-Zacas was interviewed on Channel 5 and 7, Bangor, Bangor Daily News, and CBC Canada on her research on wild blueberries and their effects on vasorelaxation and cardiovascular disease as well on the contributions of the FSN faculty to wild blueberry research and Maine economy.

Dr. Vivian Wu is the Financial & Public Reactions Officer and Organizing Committee Officer for Global Chinese Health Food Symposium that was held in Chicago, IL. July 27-28, 2007

Dr. Vivian Wu recently co-organized The Third International Forum on Food Safety and workshop
in Shanghai, China. The Forum provided ample opportunities addressing updated technology
achievements, improved regulatory management systems and advanced technical support systems
for food safety. She is also a invited speaker for the symposium and a section chair.

Professor Mary Ellen Camire recently attended the AACC International Board of Directors <link to http://www.aaccnet.org> meeting and the Cereals & Europe section of AACCI’s first spring conference “Consumer Driven Cereal Innovation: Where Science Meets Industry” in Montpelier France. Dr. Camire was recently elected president-elect of the organization.

Dr. Dorothy Klimis-Zacas received a University sabbatical for Spring semester 2007 to the University of Milan, Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Microbiology (DISTAM), to research the role of antioxidants on diabetic microangiopathies.


Dr. Klimis-Zacas serves as the chair of the Local Organizing committee for a joint conference of the Society for Trace Element Research in Humans (ISTERH) and the Nordic Trace Element Society (NTES), to be held on the island of Crete, Greece, in October 21-26, 2007 www.isterh.org
