Serving the State of Maine and Beyond…

Greetings from the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at the University of Maine!

We are dedicated to providing quality undergraduate and graduate education, relevant research, and exceptional public service. Students choose from one of four undergraduate degree concentrations (Food Science, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Management, or Nutrition Science), or pursue master’s or doctoral degrees. The combined dietetic internship/graduate degree program plays a vital role in training dietetics professionals.  Our faculty collaborates with researchers and industrial partners within the state and around the globe. Our new departmental facilities in Hitchner Hall contain spacious research laboratories, a commercial teaching kitchen, a Consumer Testing Center for sensory evaluation of foods, and a Pilot Plant food processing facility. Come for a visit and learn more about us!
